According to RED:
"We've seen problems with the new QuickTime 7.4 update. One user has reported slower decodes and we've seen problems of movies not working at all.
We are working on resolving these issues. Please stick to 7.3 for now!"

[edit: Update:
I believe these issues have been taken care of. There is no longer a warning of Quicktime related issues on the RED support site.

An update:
Some people are having moderate success using the newly released QT 7.4.1, but 7.3 still seems to be the most reliable.
The problem with QT 7.3 is that the new MAC PROs that come with OSX 10.5.x already have QT 7.4 installed AND if you try rolling back to 7.3, the RED apps crash.
So for a new MAC PRO with OSX 10.5.x, you might be better off with 7.4.1, which has been reported to work, however not completely or reliably yet.
Safest bet, an OSX 10.4.x system with QT 7.3
We'll keep you updated as Apple and RED release news on this issue. _________________ Casey Green

Well, Apple has yet again updated Quicktime with version 7.4.5. It's too early for most to know if there are any bug fixes (or new bugs) that effect RED software and workflow, so it's best to stick with the recommended setup for now.
This is the latest information regarding which version of QT to use with which OS, as listed on the RED support webpage:
RED recommended OS/Software configurations for Mac Hardware.
* Recommended configurations for Final Cut Pro 6.0.2
* Configuration #1: Intel MacPro or MacBookPro, Leopard (OS 10.5.2) with QuickTime 7.4.1
* #2: Intel MacPro or MacBookPro, Tiger (OS 10.4.11) with QuickTime 7.3.1*
* * users with NVIDIA 7300 GT should update to Leopard
* Minimum RAM for all configs: 1 GB
* Suggested RAM for Kona3 configs on Leopard: 2 GB*
* * if experiencing performance issues. If not, AJA recommends 4 GB
Note:
There have been stability issues working with Red Footage using QuickTime 7.4 and Quicktime 7.4.1 on Mac OS 10.4.11 (Tiger).
There are reports that QuickTime 7.4 is causing stability issues with both RED ALERT! and Final Cut Pro when working with RED footage. RED recommends that users on Tiger (10.4.11) remain on QuickTime 7.3.1 and do not install QuickTime 7.4.
If you are working with RED ALERT! and Final Cut Pro under Leopard (OS 10.5.2) RED recommends that users run QuickTime 7.4.1.
