In a product sneak peek, Adobe shows 4 Layers of RED .R3D files playing back in real time with an off the shelf graphics card:

According to Dave Helmly (of DAVTechTable):
"No special requirements other than a 64 bit OS (OSX 10.6 or Win7 64/Vista64) and a supported nVidia card (same basic specs for CS4 + 64bit OS). Remember, CS4 is the last 32bit version of Premiere Pro. Currently in our testing we are supporting the Geforce GTX285, Quadro CX, FX4800, and FX5800. The plan will be to add more select nVidia cards as they get released. I recommend 8-16GB RAM so you can jump from Premiere to AfterEffects to Encore to Photoshop as needed. No special requirements on hard drives other than the faster the better. I only use raids. Lastly, the more Cores you have more you can do on the CPU side of the equation. Meaning, the CPU will pick up where the GPU leaves off. There are some effects that the GPU doesn't handle yet and the CPU will kick to take over the task."
