Ted Schilowitz made this announcement online recently regarding upcoming REDucation events:
"Over the past few runs of REDucation, we've streamlined the course, and are combining the Camera and Post sides of the course into one comprehensive class (no longer will we have the option of taking just the camera side or the post side separately.)
We proved with REDucation what we knew all along, that with the RED, shooting and post are so intertwined, that it doesn't make sense to separate them into to different modules. Considering there is a large on set component of post production, viewing footage, prepping files for editorial, screening dailies during or immediately after the shoot, etc. it really is critical to know all of it to be fully effective as a RED expert.
By combining the Camera and Post sides, we will be making it more focused on the subject matter that's most important, based on feedback we have received from the first few classes.
The new structure for REDucation is as follows: 6 day class - 2.5 days of Camera tech and on set practices, 2.5 days of Post Production for both on set and off set (post environment) editorial, color grading and DI finishing for TV and Theatrical deliverables. Middle day will continue to be the RED community day, giving the students in the class time to interface with the various companies that support RED in both production and post.
Classes will still be fully hands on with many RED camera packages, all kinds of support gear, both 4k and 2k projection. Many Mac workstations for On set Tech training and post production training, and RED Rocket enabled 4k screening station to view Student shot footage in 4k.
REDucation Vegas:
First class we are planning to run as discussed above will be in Las Vegas from April 8th to April 12th with a special REDuser and REDucation day on April 14th. Then we will be running this class structure in NYC and LA and we are working on the international version, with planned locations in Paris, London and select Cities in Asia and India - dates to be announced sometime early 2010.
This REDucation Vegas looks to be a very popular destination, as it is set to run directly before the NAB show, so many people coming in from all over the USA and Internationally will extend their trip by a week, and combine REDucation with their NAB activities.
We will do our best to accommodate as many students that want to take the Vegas REDucation class. With many RED camera packages and Mac workstations to accommodate the hands on learning style we teach, and large screen 4k and 2k projection it will be a great environment to learn and have fun. Even though this class will be larger than our normal class size, we will be increasing support staff, gear and the venue to support it properly, just as we have with our LA classes.
If you are interested in Vegas REDucation, please register soon at REDucation.net, as we anticipate this class will fill up fast, even with the larger number of students we plan to work with on this run.
The 2010 Dates are up: http://www.reducation.net/dates.html The Vegas Registration is up now, and the other classes will open up registration soon.
Thanks for all the interest and support for RED Digital Cinema's Education efforts. It was a great start in 2009 and we look forward to a great year of REDucation in 2010."

More from Ted Schilowitz re: the April REDucation Vegas:
"Hello Everyone,
For those that have been interested in seeing what REDucation is all about, the staff has put up a group of pix that tell the story pretty well...
http://www.reducation.net/testimonials.html
We are prepping for the next class in Vegas now, from April 8th to 12th. Registration is open to sign up, if you are interesting in being part of the class
I just got off the phone with Michael Cioni, one of the lead instructors about some of the latest developments with the M-X RED ONEs and how much of that we plan on covering in this next class... I'll let him fill you in on what we plan on covering, since he's been working on this and has been doing a lot of work with M-X footage recently.
Looking forward to seeing many of you in Vegas for the fun!"

Light Iron's Michael Cioni:
"Hi Everyone-
As Ted and Mark mentioned, REDucation Las Vegas will be an exciting, convenient, and timely opportunity to discuss all things RED from nearly every professional production and post production angle. Furthermore, the hands-on week-long event is also built with an equal eye towards addressing independent filmmaking issues as well as studio sanctioned projects. Thanks to this intentional design, REDucation has been successful in addressing, challenging, and revealing some of the most progressive end-to-end file based filmmaking techniques as well as delving into the areas of RED filmmaking that are often overlooked and misunderstood.
But I wanted to take a moment to discuss the validity of this program with people who have been working with RED since the beginning. It is common to have people in our classrooms who have never held a RED sit next to people who shoot RED professionally every day. Yet this class is absolutely designed to satisfy both ends of the spectrum. In fact, it is common for us to receive feedback from experienced RED One professionals as to how beneficial REDucation was in improving their images, communicating the benefits of RED to producers, and how to solve typical pitfalls that are often out of their control.
Most success stories come from production personnel who leave REDucation learning more about the camera, color science, and exposure, but more importantly learning how the processing, transcoding, media management and color correction can and should be handled. The same goes for post production people who traditionally have very little understanding as to how these images are acquired and how to best manage and monitor the double-edged sword of non-destructive on-set meta data.
The bottom line is that this class is, in fact, for everyone. With a revolution as extraordinary and altering as RED, the industry at large is looking to RED users for accurate and comprehensive information and a non-invasive implementation into the world markets. We talk about this from a producer's point of view, a financial point of view, a wider workflow point of view, as well as a philosophical point of view. Because each project represents its own set of challenges, REDucation is the ideal program to help diversify your understanding of the format from the inside out. As the timing of REDucation Las Vegas coincides with the release of the 2nd generation of RED cameras, this is an ideal time to prepare for fall 2010, which I predict will be the largest, rapid shift towards file-based acquisition ever.
A few of the things we have prepared for REDucation Las Vegas are:
*Hands-on overview and full breakdown of new MX color science
*Hands-on 4K playback/projection of all classroom demo material
Hands-on software and hardware tool labs
*Hands-on MX camera shooting
*Hands-on 4K DI color correction
*Industry leader guest speaker testimonials & Q&A
*Latest RED software tools
*Latest RED hardware tools
If RED Users are concerned that REDucation may not be challenging enough, consider the arena of the filmmaking process that you are not all that familiar with and rest assured, REDucation will help you fill that void with a wealth of information, evaluation, and experience.
Looking forward to raising the bar with you all..."
