According to RED's Jarred Land:
"...there are a few other things special about shooting with the new sensor + color science.
First off the highlights.. nobody mentioned those
Remember this is a wet creature.. lit by a silver parabolic umbrella. There are some highlights in there...and look how nice the roll-off is.
The creative advantage of having those exposure goal posts expand is worth mentioning as well.
I didn't want to shoot wide open here.. only his eyeballs would of been in focus as I was right up on him.. (his front claws are actually attacking the lens hood).
So.. knowing I needed a specific (deeper) stop to hit the Depth of Field that I wanted, I needed to either add more light to keep the 1/48th shutter, or increase the rating.
Adding light would of been not so good for our slimy little friend.. and since there is so much black/dark in the shot, I might of been a bit concerned about raising to ISO 800 before.. but not anymore.
It is easy to get lost in the technical aspects of shooting and exposing the RED. Its getting easier. You can get a dozen different explanations and a dozen different workflows talking to a dozen people... but it is getting easier."
