The much anticipated announcement for Scarlet (among other things) was posted online today by RED:

"First an update on the ASIC issue Jim talked about last week.

The RED engineering team has worked 18 hour days through the holidays and have completed the majority of new layout for scheduled new metal spin. There are still many hurdles to overcome, but the team is making huge leaps forward every day. I wish you guys could see how hard these guys are working. When they are done, we all are going to owe them a round (or six).

Before we get to Scarlet, I have a quick update on RED RAY.

We haven't said much about RED RAY in the last couple months, but there definitely has been alot of development happening. With feedback from our partners and many of you, we have moved the RED RAY PRO ahead of RED RAY Consumer....

Pricing will be announced before release :) "

SCHEDULE

"Given that current delay in the ASIC development, we now see the following schedule.

Remember.. the goal posts move everyday. Sometimes they go backwards, sometimes they leap forward. The two things left are the ASIC and firmware. It took us 2 years to get where we are now, another couple of extra months to get where we need to go for a solid, new feature firmware for the new cameras. That is one of the main reasons for the Tattoo program, which will be extremely limited in numbers.

Tattoo- early 2010
EPIC S35 Stage 2- NAB 2010 (or shortly after)
EPIC S35 Stage 3 & 4- pre-summer 2010

Scarlet 2/3" (both models)- May-June 2010
Scarlet S35- Summer 2010

This presupposes that there are no other major surprises..."

Mini Primes (Photo)

"The first 3 ( 50mm, 25mm, 16mm ) are complete. The quality of these optics are incredible. The 6mm and 8mm are due in December. We can project these lenses in Lake Forest, anyone who is interested can email me and come check them out."

BOMB EVF (PHOTO)

The Bomb EVFs are now out in the wild being tested by some of our beta testers. Production has begun on the mechanicals and the optics. One great new feature that just snuck in in time for production is the Bomb EVF now has an internal heater, to allow for extremely cold operation. BOMB EVFs will work with all RED CAMERAS, including the RED ONE. Shipping is slated to begin end of January.

25mm Mini Prime (Photo):

"The Mini Primes use a Mini PL mount... basically a scaled down version of a PL mount. This is different than the RED PRIME mount, which has a much larger image circle to accommodate full frame sensors.

And I cant wait for you guys to see the optics on the mini-primes... Well over 100 line pairs of resolution center to edge, Distortion incredibly low, Chromatic and Spherical Aberration is virtually absent. We spent alot of time on these little guys."

"We also have something new... REDMOTE Pro.

All REDMOTEs are wireless.. so you can have just one and use it on and off camera. But, REDMOTEs are also Master/Slave programmable.. so you can have multiple REDMOTEs per camera if that is how you want to roll.

"The Fixed Lens is servo controlled. You have the option of controlling the ring electronically, and set it to either Zoom, Focus or Iris. (You can then use the rings on the normal REDMOTE, Side Handle or the REDMOTE PRO to handle either of the rings (Z,I,F) as well.

There is a rotational ring on the normal REDMOTE, and on the Side Handle as well, that can be programmed for either function.

The OLED display is only going to be on the RED Electronic lenses.

The knob is aprox. 2.5" in diameter, there are some similar sized knobs on the market and it feels really good in your hand. The white ring is replaceable.

The Battery on the Redmote should last an entire day. When it is on the back of the camera it charges itself as well.

All REDMOTEs are wireless... it clicks onto the back of the brain, or onto the back of each module."
