Switronix to release line of batteries for RED:

"Switronix has developed a way to make their batteries communicate with the RED One for the status display in the viewfinder. These are the only batteries on the market other than RED to do this.

There are two models. The Switronix XP-L95RED is a 95whr lithium battery which is legal to ship and transport on airlines under the current FAA regulations. At 140whr, the RED batteries are not. The Switronix XP-L190RED is a 190whr lithium battery which is the strongest onboard battery available for the RED on the market.

The Switronix batteries can be charged on the RED chargers or any other V-mount chargers, including models from Switronix. The batteries are priced at approximately the same dollars per watt as the RED brick and will function on the camera the same as the RED battery. They have an LED bar readout on the side similar to the RED battery and they also include a P-Tap power port directly on the battery itself, giving the user an extra 12v accessory port.

Abel Cine Tech is offering special bundles on these new batteries with exclusive pricing. The 95whr batteries are available in a set of four with either a Switronix GP-TS-RED hotswap adapter or a GP-TS-RED2 hotswap mounting plate with Lemo cable. The 190whr batteries are available as a set of two with a Switronix GP-S-RED replacement battery mount. With the pricing we are essentially throwing in the battery mounts free of charge. Note that in the first two bundles, by using a hotswap one gets 190whrs of power on the camera, retains the status information and everything is airline transportable.

These are exclusive deals from Abel Cine Tech. The batteries are also available for purchase individually. They can be ordered via our website or by contacting our offices in New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. Feel free to direct any technical questions to me.

The batteries made by RED are 140whr and is $450. That's about $3.20 per watt. The Switronix batteries are about the same dollars per watt.

Also, the Switronix are lithium ion technology, same as the RED bricks. They will have a similar number of cycles in their life. A 95whr brick will last about one hour and a 190whr brick will last about two hours.

Forgot to note, we don't recommend using the 190whr batteries with the hot swap mounts. The batteries each weigh more than four pounds each, so that would be a huge weight hanging off your shoulder. Certainly if you tried to use the hot sawp adapter GP-TS-RED it would probably overly-strain the battery mount."
