According to Jim Jannard of RED:
"The RED ONE will soon be able to shoot 4.5K, 2.40:1 at 30fps. Expect to see this very soon."
This is great news as it has been known for some time that there is extra room on the sensor that hasn't been used for recording. The original specs listed a 4520 x 2540p mode. (The full pixel array of the sensor is listed 4900 x 2580 - which allows for a Look Around area ("Surround View") as well as other sensor tests, etc.)
Camera owners continue to be pleasantly surprised by free updates from RED with significant features in each new release... something not traditionally done by most manufacturers.
