RED has recently announced that the forthcoming firmware update, build 16, will finally enable 1080p outputs.
According to Jim Jannard:
"The roadmap is single link HD-SDI 1080P at 4:2:2- true progressive and dual link HD-SDI 1080P 4:4:4 true progressive. All recorders or end monitors must support 1080P true progressive... like the Panasonic D5 and their monitors. You need a 3rd party converter box for non-true progressive recording or monitoring. RED only supports true progressive in camera, monitoring and post."
The 1080 outputs are currently available only during playback (build 16 ) and are true progressive outputs, there is no 1080 PsF support. Also, the EVF and LCD will show the central 1280 x 720 pixels out of the 1920 x 1080 frame.
The HDMI will follow PREVIEW HD-SDI, so that would be 10 bit 4:2:2 1080p. The EVF and LCD displays will represent the central 1280 x 720 pixels. In the case of the LCD that data is scaled down to fit the 1024 x 600 pixel display.
1080p live monitoring is still a possibility in future builds along with RGB recording. Embedded timecode and audio is not yet available.
More info when it becomes available. _________________ Casey Green
