In several recent discussions RED is having online, we have learned that a "mini-app" called REDQUICK will be available which allows the user to put a Quicktime "wrapper" around the REDCODE RAW files to immediately view them as Quicktime movies. (No Transcoding time here).
Also, there are plans for trying to add this capability in-camera. According to RED engineers, there would be a Master 4K REDCODE RAW data file PLUS Quicktime reference files (proxies) at 2K, 1K, and 0.5K. Apparently, RED has always reserves ~200MB of space on the media to permit Quicktime reference files to be written.
The idea is that you would have both real time playback of RECODE RAW data on-camera as well as instant or virtually instant playback via your computer!
