This was posted online by Jim Jannard regarding After Effects importing and framerates:

"Make sure you set your Prefs/Import settings to 23.976 before you import footage in AE.

If you forget to do that... go to Interpret Footage and Composition Settings and change the default 30fps to 23.976."

Also added by Bruce Allen:

"Good note. That 30fps default (and the way the import settings are buried in the prefs) is a bad design decision.

I can't count how many times I've been switching between broadcast and film projects (or between one machine and another with different prefs) and ended up importing things at the wrong frame rate as a result, then getting horribly confused for 10 minutes.

Note that if you've imported 50 clips at the wrong settings, you can fix them all at once:
1. fix the Interpret Footage settings for one clip
2. control-click on the fixed clip and choose Interpret Footage -> Remember Interpretation
3. select all other clips
4. control-click and choose Interpret Footage -> Apply Interpretation

The fact that Adobe has in fact come up with keyboard shortcuts for this makes one think AE users have to do this a little more than they should."
