RED's Jim Jannard recently released this information about recent exposure tests:

"We have successfully done testing at ISO (ASA) 4000 (180 degree shutter). It is noisy but very useable. You might even be able to squeek out ISO 8000. The Mysterium® sensor is so clean that it is amazing."

Then later he also released the test image below with the following information:

"This is ISO 8000 and 180 degree shutter (not 360) shot under tungsten light (the most difficult). We think we can still do better, but this is pretty amazing stuff. Shot with RED 18-50mm T3 zoom on "Acapulco". It was exposed for ISO 8000 (f22). Normal exposure at ISO 250 was T4."

These are staggering numbers in determining the flexibility of the sensor in low-light conditions, not to mention how it could effect the possibilities of using different combinations of lighting setups, different speed lenses, etc. They are well beyond what was expected in the shipping Camera.

Here is another image (done at ISO 32000) released today. It seems they are curious as to just how good the sensor is compared to what they thought they could get out of it. Here is what Jim Jannard had to say:

"We are sure having fun around here. We skipped ISO 16000 and went right to ISO 32000... just for fun. You can debate all you want if you would accept this image or not. I wouldn't. But it demonstrates that there is no real adult supervision around here and that you can distress this camera quite a long way and it "keeps on ticking". Have fun with this one... we did."

It was lit for T2 at ISO 250 and shot at f22, or 7 stops under exposed- ISO 32000.

Here are some additional images released. Everything shown here was shot with Gain added since the current Camera being used needs an upload to change this setting. (I imagine this will be taken care of in a menu feature shortly.)

(Note: The horizontal line visible in the upper 3rd area of the full frame shots has been identified as a simple bug and the RED team already has a fix for it in the next build of the Camera Firmware.)
