Posted online by RED's Jim Jannrd:

"Mysterium-X News.

The 1st project shot on the new Mysterium-X sensor is "The Social Network", directed by David Fincher... cinematographer- Jeff Cronenweth. The movie is being shot with two RED ONE cameras modified with the new sensor upgrade. David and Jeff were kind enough to shoot "The Match" (DiCaprio) for us a week before RED Day One.

The next project to be shot with the M-X sensor (RED ONE upgrade) is "Knockout", directed by Steven Soderbergh. Shooting begins in two weeks.

Interestingly enough... Fincher is using Soderbergh's original cameras that were used to shoot "Ché 1&2", "The Informant!" and "Girlfriend Experience"... so we had to prepare new RED ONE M-X cameras for "Knockout".

The 1st round of customer M-X upgrades have begun.

Here is a reminder of what the images can look like from this sensor.

This is ISO 2000 at T 1.3. No noise reduction whatsoever."

Jim Jannard recently released this statement online:

"Mysterium-X dynamic range...

Neil Smith and his crew from Hollywood DI supervised an over/under shoot to confirm the dynamic range of the new Mysterium-X sensor. Charts were lit in a properly controlled light booth at D50. An engineering build was used with a slight calibration issue. Results clearly showed 13 stops with more room available given a proper calibration. We will re-shoot and post results as soon as the calibration issue is resolved. We fully expect a meaningful increase once this is done.

The noise floor of the new sensor is pretty incredible. I'll let those that have seem it post their opinion since we showed plenty of examples tonight at the new RED Studios Hollywood."

Also important to note:

The read time of the new Mysterium-X sensor is twice that of the original design, which makes the issue of "rolling shutter" virtually gone.

This is yet another sign that RED's engineers are tacking each issue, one at a time, until perfected.
