Jim Jannard of RED posted some new stills from the Mysterium-X Sensor (which is still in development) online recently. The M-X Sensor is soon to be released as an upgrade to RED ONE owners, as well as shipping with the new Cameras:

"Mysterium-X ISO ratings...

The new Mysterium-X sensor in EPIC S35 is pretty badass. Top is ISO 500 (super clean), middle is 1000, and bottom is ISO 4000. ISO 1000. Of course no post noise reduction. The detail in the back curtain on the ISO 4000 is due to stopping down the aperture. I didn't have enough NDs. Smile

Of particular note is the fact that your handheld meter now matches ISO rating.

I shot these with an upgraded RED ONE..."

More from Jim...

"The M-X sensor is larger than the RED ONE sensor... I'm just shooting charts at 4K 2:1 because it is convenient, and I am scaling them down anyway. By shooting 4K I can more easily compare with stuff I have shot in the past on a RED ONE with original sensor. The new sensor in a RED ONE will "only" shoot 4.5K... as limited by the boards."

By the way, according to Jarred Land of RED:

"Jim's M-X-R1 camera that he used to take this shot does not have the new OLPF/IR filter installed in it yet... Both Epic and the R1 Sensor Upgrade program will share the same new OLPF filters that are better at blocking IR."

And here's another great post from Jim:

"I'm embarrassed to have posted the last thread with the images of different ISOs. I should have waited. Graeme and Deanan have been very busy in the last week so I thought I would give the new stuff a quick workout. David Mullen asked for tungsten... since I don't have a tungsten light here, I grabbed a candle. It white balances out to under 2000K, less than tungsten. I turned off all the lights in the garage and lit the candle. Best I can tell is this is ISO 4000. Shot on RED Zoom at T-2.8.

The boys are going to yell at me again for posting this because they still aren't done. It won't be the last time..."

Jim Jannard:

"Here is one lit by my iPhone... a free app called "Just Light". Not very bright. Daylight balanced and still about ISO 4000.

Download the app yourself, turn off all the lights and see what I'm talking about..." Smile

More from Jim Jannard about the Mysterium-X Sensor:

"Here is the ISO 4000 file in 2.2K (Jarred will post it). To recap:

This is a RED ONE with the new Mysterium-X sensor.

I turned out all the lights in the garage so it was pitch black... really. Then I lit the chart with my iPhone and free app called "Just Light"... not very bright. You can download it yourself and do this same test. Don't cheat... you need a pitch black room.

We used Graeme's new test app (RAND) with our new color space (REDcolor), our new gamma (REDgamma) and a touch of Graeme's new secret NR sauce (very mild)... like milk chocolate.

Next week I'll do the same test at ISO 800 to show you what the new sensor can REALLY do.
Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..."
